The Agriculture Union ‘Boutique’, our on-line shopping page, is now open for business!

(Posted May 24, 2010)

We’re pleased to unveil an important new addition to our ever-expanding Web site – the Agriculture Union Boutique.

You’ll see the new link, labelled ‘Boutique’, has been added to the main menu on the left side of this page.

Members will now be able to go on-line to view a number of articles of clothing and useful items sharing the Agriculture Union ‘brand’. Over the past few months, we have prepared an assortment of quality clothing and products we think you will be proud to use or wear – in the workplace, or in the community.

Wherever possible, we have sourced products that are union-made in Canada. If not available, we then looked for Canadian-made goods.

Ordering Boutique products is quick and uncomplicated. You decide what you or your Local wants to purchase. Then you download and fill out a simple order form. Finally, you mail the form, along with a cheque payable to the Agriculture Union, to our National Office. It’s simple as one, two, three!

Like many of our site enhancements, the suggestion for our ‘Boutique’ came from you, our members. As always, we count on your active involvement of the evolution of our site and appreciate your input!

South Okanagan Locals join Penticton’s May Day celebrations

(Posted May 12, 2010)

Cool and wet weather failed to dampen the enthusiasm of Agriculture Union Locals 27 and 43 members as they joined fellow unionists, family and friends in celebrating May Day in Penticton, British Columbia.

The event was organized by the South Okanagan Boundary Labour Council. Members of other PSAC Component unions also participated, along with the PSAC’s Okanagan Area Council and Regional Women’s Committee.

While North Americans have historically marked the first Monday in September as ‘Labour Day’, May 1 is celebrated throughout the rest of the world as International Workers’ Day, or ‘May Day’ for short.

Penticton’s May Day was the first held in the South Okanagan region in a number of years. It was in part organized as a tangible gesture of support for recreation centre workers whose jobs are threatened with privatization by Penticton City Council.

Steady streams of people stopped by to visit the booths, sign petitions, partake in activities for children, listen to the speeches or simply enjoy the various musical performances. PSAC members were kept busy assisting kids and adults alike to create their very own unique buttons or try their hand at origami at the PSAC kids craft booth.

Our 2010 Rand recruitment contest: meet April's winner!

(Posted May 11, 2010)

We’re pleased to announce the April winnere of the current Agriculture Union Rand recruitment contest: Lahmidi Kadem of Local 70138, representing our Department of National Defence members in Ottawa-Gatineau.

The object of signing up Rands is to strengthen Agriculture Union Locals right across the country. That benefits all members. The Local delegate entitlement to the Agriculture Union convention could increase by signing up more Rands. As well, the winning Local will receive an observer’s seat to our next convention, with all expenses paid by the National Office.

And, as for Lahmidi, he receives an Agriculture Union T-shirt and a warm welcome to our union!
