Requesting permission or leave to be a political candidate – including municipal elections

(Posted July 17, 2008)

This autumn will see many municipal elections held across the country.

Before either seeking a nomination or being a candidate in a federal, provincial, territorial or municipal election, employees must request and obtain permission from the Public Service Commission (PSC).

It is essential that employees who wish to be candidates in an election submit their requests to the PSC no later than 30 days before the date a decision is required from the PSC.

Given the stakes involved, any Agriculture Union member considering throwing his or her hat into the municipal ring should investigate this further.
